"Live" Objects

An interesting new paper on "Live Metacircular Runtimes"

(or, to put it a bit edgily, "making live objects great again" 😀)

The examples and focus are from "the Smalltalk school", but the original metacircular "tower of interpreters" paper is both old and cool (and pixelated?): "Reflection and Semantics in Lisp"

This paper is from 1984, but the author -- Brian Cantwell Smith -- also went on to write what might be one of the strangest book on object-orientedness, in an abstract and philosophical sense, "On the origin of objects"

Perhaps I will read his recent (and cautionary) book on "the promise of artificial intelligence" in the next two years.
