A guide to the sky

Apps on our smartphones get a bad rap for wasting our time, and deservedly so.

Most apps are either harmful, neutral, distracting, or just offer minor conveniences.

But there's a special category of apps that truly shine because we have "computers in our pockets."

One such app is Sky Guide.

This app can magically show me which stars are in the sky, highlight them as I move my phone around, and even display helpful connecting lines and the ecliptic.

One set of apps that are genuinely something that exist only because we have "computers in our pockets" are apps like Sky Guide, which have this magical ability to tell me which stars are in the sky, highlight them for me as I move my phone around, and display helpful connecting lines, the ecliptic, etc

I can't believe I paid the price of a cup or two of coffee for something that I can use forever, works so well, and is a delight every single time I use it!

P.S. You don’t even have to pay for it—the basic version is more than enough to get a general idea of what’s up in the sky. Being able to look at the generally limited (light-polluted) view and know that the three lights you see are Jupiter, Venus, and Sirius is a nice feeling.
