Finding the Human Signal: iA Writer’s Authorship Guides

The most valuable writing tool I’ve discovered recently isn’t another AI assistant—it’s iA Writer’s “human versus AIauthorship guides.

The feature is quite simple: As you write, iA Writer visibly marks words that you wrote, to separate them from the AI-generated material.

This simple markup reveals something profound about this “collaborative writing” age: As AI masters technical fluency, the premium shifts to something harder to replicate: genuine human perspective.

The challenge isn’t avoiding AI tools—it’s learning ways to use them without losing our voice, which should always come first.

P.S. I bought iA Writer many years ago. It’s one of those rare apps that isn’t subscription based, which makes it that much easier to recommend.

It’s gone in and out of rotation as something I use, and now, for the reasons above, it’s back.

There are other reasons to like it too, such as the generally clean, distraction-free interface that keeps me focused on the writing itself.
